Learjet 40XR

The Learjet is a serious contender in the competitive private jet market based on its cruise speed, cabin space, and technological advancements which are greater than other light private jets. It has excellent range/payload flexibility and an ability to climb quickly to elevations far above most other air traffic and bad weather. Its range allows for nonstop flights from Chicago to San Francisco or from Singapore to Hong Kong -- trips that few other light private jets could complete. Released in 2006, the Learjet 40XR is a modified version of the 40 and the larger 45, with improvements in hot-and-high performance, climb rates and time en-route.

Learjet 40XR Cabin

The Learjet 40XR’s cabin is highly competitive in its class, stretching 17.7 feet in length, 5.1 feet in width and a 4.9 feet in height, creating 363 cubic feet of cabin volume. Typical configuration seats 6 passengers in a club plus two arrangement. The external baggage compartment stores 50 cubic feet of baggage with an additional 15 cubic feet interior storage, a forward closet, and refreshment center.

Learjet 40XR Performance

The Learjet 40XR performs well in the air, being able to cruise as fast as 453 ktas (.81 Mach), fly up to 1,617 nautical miles nonstop and take off in 5,090 feet at high altitudes. Even fully loaded to its maximum takeoff weight of 21,000 pounds, it can take off in just 4,680 feet from a sea level runway and take 15 minutes to climb to FL370.

Learjet 40XR Economy

Despite its high speeds, its fuel consumption remains relatively economical due its aerodynamic design with winglets (cutting down on drag) and two fuel-efficient Honeywell TFE731-20-BR turbofan engines, rated at 3,500 lbs of thrust each.

Learjet 40XR Avionics

Its Honeywell Primus 1000 digital avionics suite is certainly up to par with the high-performing jet; with 4 cathode ray tube screens well located on the control panel. A lot of design attention was paid to arranging the avionics in an easy-to-use, logical layout, making the pilot’s job easier and flights safer.

Learjet 40XR Reputation

The Learjet 40XR stands out in the world of light private jets, likely because of its renowned heritage. It flies long distances quickly and provides room for optimal passenger comfort making it so highly popular.

Warren Buffett - Come fly with me!

Warren Buffett yesterday jumped into a new line of work — he’s hawking little-money-down, low rate, quick-approval loans on a lifestyle-changing purchase.

No, America’s wealthiest man isn’t selling subprime mortgages, he has introduced a financing arm to his NetJets unit aimed at helping the well-heeled keep up their luxury-jet lifestyles by loaning them cash to fly on his fleet of 800 planes, which lost a ton of money last year but posted pre-tax profits of $158 million in the first nine months of 2010.
